"Because Every Animal Deserves a Second Chance at Happiness"

WHAT DOES FOSTERING A DOG INVOLVE?

When you foster for SCAR, you agree to provide food, shelter and love to a homeless dog and take it into your home for a predetermined period of time or until the dog is adopted.  SCAR will pay for all medical expenses for the foster dog as long as it is pre-approved .

WHY DO WE NEED FOSTER HOMES?

There are many reasons that a dog needs foster care:

  • A pregnant mother dog needs a safe, quiet place to give birth and raise the pups.
  • A puppy or litter of puppies is too young to be adopted and needs a safe place to stay until it is old enough to be adopted (8 weeks of age).
  • A dog is recovering from surgery or illness and needs a quite place to recuperate.
  • A dog is showing stress such as pacing, shivering or trying to hide.
  • A dog needs to be socialized because they have not lived in a home before or had much contact with people.
  • SCAR has no room for adoptable dogs.

WHY SHOULD I FOSTER A DOG?

Fostering can be a very rewarding experience.  By fostering an animal temporarily in your home you are:

  • freeing up a spot for another dog in need
  • socializing the dog - getting them use to being around other pets and people and teaching them how to live in a home environment
  • getting to know the personality of the dog which helps us place him in the best possible home
